Them WMPUC Aggression Strategy of members native loads (using the combined loads of Westfield, Holyoke, Chicopee, and South Hadley) over individual system loads, resulted in savings in 1998 of $551,797, and in 199 of $611,386 for a total of $1,163,183 in savings for WMPUC electric ratepayers based on generation capacity contributions.

The WMPUC Aggression Strategy was discontinued because of the changes in ISO/NEPOOL Wholesale Markets. NEPOOL Interchange was based on the competitive market prices, not replacement fuel cost and unit characteristics. Bilateral market transaction was implemented within an hour notice instead of a day-ahead.

In 2000 WMPUC entered into a 25 MW Contract with Select Energy/NU that has resulted in over $8 Million of savings so far to WMPUC participant ratepayers over market place Purchases.

Support "municipals" vs. "IOUs"

Continue to explore power supply options that make regional sense to the Western Massachusetts located utilities for the benefit of their ratepayers.

NOTE:
The DTE has approved the disaggregating of WMPUC power supply and the transfer of NYPA entitlements from Holyoke to the respective individual accounts of Chicopee and Westfield effective May 1, 200.
